Books changed my life.  As a little girl I burned through books like most kids burned through toys.  I was obsessed with reading.

Now that I am making the transition to owning my own publishing company/small business I realize that the thing I loved the most (the written word) is now going to be the thing that changes my life again.

I write and read because it helps me to become my best self.  Might sound corny but books changed my perception of the world and people in general.  I was able to read about the types of people that I will probably never meet in real life.  Travel to places that I may never see.  Reading opened my world to the cosmos, magic, vampires and fantasy.

Writing helps me convey the things that I have a hard time saying out loud.  There are so many thoughts in my head, every day, all of the time.  It's nice to be able to put those thoughts on paper and share them with those that care to read them.

Owning Waid Books has slowly converted me into a believer.  A firm believer in myself and others!  It's an amazing gift to be able to collaborate with new authors and get them published, conduct book signings, Google Plus Hangouts, Live Chats and every other way I can reach readers and authors.  

Changing your life is a step by step process.  It can be done!  Take that first step today and move toward something you would love to do for the rest of your life.  All it takes is a try.

WAID BOOKS RECIPE TIME

In honor of summer fruits!

Mango/Pineapple/Strawberry Smoothie
(Courtesy of Food Network:  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/mango-pineapple-strawberry-smoothie-recipe/index.html)

Ingredients:
1 Mango (seeded, peeled and chopped)
1/2 cup pineapple juice
1 cup of strawberries (hulled and halved)
2 scoops of strawberry or coconut sorbet

Directions:
In a blender process the mango, strawberries and sorbet and juice until smooth.  Serve in a tall glass with strawberry garnish.

Enjoy the fruits of the season!

This is the tentative cover for the first recipe book to be published by Waid Books!  The owner of P-Love's Smokin' Rub has given us permission to "leak" this cover in anticipation of it's release in time for grilling season!

Kevin "Pete" Groom has been smoking various types of meat for his family and friends for the last 5 years.  He formulated his own seasoning rub and has decided to mass market it to the world.  If you'd like to buy a jar of the rub the company website is:  www.smokeandbbq.com

Kevin (affectionately known to all as "Pete") took a hobby and turned it into a business.  He is successful because he believes in his product and has allowed the world to feel his passion for his seasoning and dishes that he lovingly prepares.

3. If one of your characters could 'come to life" which one would you treat to dinner and why?

I have a character in Just Beneath the Surface named Diamond. She's a teenager, and in the story, she is operating out of hurt, and it is only causing her to spiral. I think that I would enjoy taking Diamond to dinner, not because I want to judge her or tell her things she probably already knows, but because what she needed more than anything else, was someone to talk to. She needed someone to tell her when she wasn't making sense. She needed to not feel invisible.

4. If it was possible, what advice would you share with your teen self?

• Rhonda, you stay up way too late, but now I see why - you're a writer.
• You're not overweight.
• Tell your parents you love them.
• You're going to wish you looked like that in ten years - didn't I just say cut it out?
• Just say what you're thinking. It's valid and you're making a bad habit of internalizing - just say it. 
• Rhonda...I'm proud of you.

5. As a published author, what advice would you give to someone that is afraid to write/share their gift?

If you are afraid, you are probably afraid of rejection, failing, or you have written something that is very personal. Please understand: Your story deserves to be told. Remove "self" and never operate out of fear. 

Take your work to people who will be honest with you. Remember to accept the constructive criticism and do away with anything mean-spirited. 

Get your work edited, hear what the editor has to say, and move forward toward your goals!! 

Remember to enjoy the journey, and don't lose touch with your passion and purpose. Share your gift, your passion and embrace your purpose!!

THE WAID BOOKS RECIPE OF THE WEEK!

In honor of our first recipe book being released this month we would like to give you a "sneak peek" of the types of recipes that will be featured using P-Love's Smokin' Rub!

Cooking Question:

Pete, I'm using P-Love's Smokin' Rub on a beef brisket in the oven today...suggestions? I've never made one!!!??

P-Love's Suggestion:

Apply a generous amount of plain mustard to the beef. Apply 1/4 cup of the rub and massage into the meat. 

Place beef in the oven on low (350 degrees). Make sure you have plenty of water in the pan as you don't want the meat to dry out while it's cooking. 

Temp out at 190 and let rest for 10 minutes before slicing!

Final Thought

With so many life-altering events happening every day in our ever-changing world, it is important to celebrate the small things in life.  

A good book can often "take the edge off" and for just a moment allow you to enjoy a different time and place.  So treasure the great stories as you have time and leave the rest of the "madness" behind.  

Always stay focused on your dreams, goals and desires and the world will have no choice but to bend to your will.
