WHY WE LOVE BOOKS!

The quote above captures why we love books, but we feel that it's necessary to further explain our love for these magical creations.

Books give life to dreams.  An author is allowed to spin their tale, give voice to their dream and invite you in to witness it first hand.

Books are magic.  The characters can go in any direction, say anything want and go left when you think they are going to go right.   They are the ultimate escape from every day life.

Books are lessons in courage.  Someone took a chance and wrote down what was in their head, in the hopes that someone else would pick it up and read it.  Maybe pass it on to a friend.  Maybe put it on their shelf.  It takes courage to write a book, and it takes courage to read one as well.

PART ONE OF OUR INTERVIEW WITH
AUTHOR R.H. RAMSEY

1.  When did you know you were a writer, author, creative person?

My report cards often said things like, "Diligent worker, very polite, but quite the daydreamer."

That I am, and that I always will be.

Art and creativity have always been deeply moving. Piano and orchestra classes were at times challenging, but the feeling of accomplishing something and finishing what I start is something that I strive for.

Reaching back a bit, as a little girl, I preferred to spend my free time with Barbie dolls. Not pretending I was a friend to the doll or changing the doll's clothes and hairstyle, but creating soap operas. Eventually, this evolved into "movies." And in middle school, I was writing short stories - maybe they were more like plays.

I completed my first novel at nineteen. And still, I didn't realize that I was a storyteller/author until last year. For some reason, it just didn't click. Maybe because I never planned to do anything with the books I had written - lots of crippling self-doubt. Now, I plan to reach until I can't reach anymore, then reach some more.

2.  What things inspire you to write and why?

I am inspired and driven by empathy. Artists absorb the fear, the pain, the triumph, healing - this inspires me - everything involving the human condition.

I feel my purpose is to create and give people something that they can feel and relate to.

~~ Stay tuned for the final questions of the interview in the next blog post! ~~
